Festa San Giovanni Florence

We will be in Florence during Festa San Giovanni.

  1. Will museums be open on June 24?
  2. Not sure we want to be at the Calcio Storico, but we would like to experience some festivities. Any recommendations for 2 adults with 2 teens?
  3. We are staying on Tornabuoni. Im guessing this is Santa Maria Novella district. Should we wear red or buy some local merch? Or should we stay neutral?

Thanks in advance. Guerino

  1. All open.
  2. There is a mass and procession at the Duomo in the morning. The calcio storico final in the afternoon. The fireworks in the evening.
  3. If you wear red and you run into some Santo Spirito (white) or Santa Croce (azzurri) fans they might decide to beat you up. But it will depend on who makes it at the final.

The Duomo mass, with some congregations wearing their historical costumes is colourful. But space is at a premium and if you do not have a local connection for the front lines you will probably end up in the back stalls.
