Ferry to Croatia

Has anyone taken the ferry from Bari to Dubrovnik? Is it a fairly easy process? How comfortable/uncomfortable is it? Ultimately, is it worth it or would we be better off spending a few extra days in the Amalfi coast? This would be for the summer months.

Not taken that ferry, but some General Thoughts based on other ferries:

The process is easy, but somewhat time consuming. You can purchase your tickets well ahead on-line, different class options/seating are available. Typically you need to be there some time ahead for boarding, in the range of an hour or more.

Basic Fare gets you an unreserved seat, some ferries offer deck passage, which is just sitting where you can as a cut rate. Reserved seats are sometimes in a different area and are close to an airline type seat with some recline. In all these cases comfort is similar to or worse than an airplane for sleeping. People tend to claim about any spot to sleep, and some amount of people are always moving around/making noise etc. If you have any trouble sleeping, traveling this way is a long 12 hours.

If none of that sounds adventurous (in the fun way), then getting a Cabin would be advised, better sleeping, quieter, secure.

On-board amenities vary, they usually have cafeteria grade food available, Casinos that amount to a few slot machines, a Bar serving basic items. Ferries are working ships, not cruise ship level.

Overall, it is lengthy and not extremely comfortable, but some find the mode of travel relaxing, bringing your own picnic and wine helps, as does springing for a cabin. I would consider a flight, or at least balance your decision by pricing it out.
