Ferry Sorrento to Naples

I am looking at ferry schedules between Naples and Sorrento for March 22 and March 26, 2017. I had no trouble seeing the schedule for Naples to Sorrento on March 22 (and previous times when I looked), so I thought this was no problem, but when I look for a return ferry, it says "No further sailings." Does the ferry run in March? If so, do I need to book in advance?

I previously wrote this as "Salerno to Naples"--such a fool--and only realized it after I got a helpful reply(!)

Joanne, you can delete your previous post if you wish.

Unless you have a lot of luggage, I would take the Circumvesuviana or the bus. If you really want the ferry, take a taxi from the taxi stand st Napoli Centrale to the tourist port.

If there is no sailing on your return date, I would just take the bus.

Joanne, I just did some test bookings on the ferry sites I usually use for the region and it looks like you're going to miss them by one day! They show the first ferries of the season not running from Sorrento to Naples until 3/27. Follow Zoe's good advice (bus/train) for making the trip.

These are the websites I used:

Zoe and Kathy, thank you for your help. Yes, I can take the bus or Circumvesuviana. The ferry had seemed more attractive because of all the warnings about the train, and I will be alone. I was on the train with my family four years ago, and it was absolutely packed, but it might be better going from Sorrento toward Naples, because I should have a better chance of choosing my spot. I'll be traveling with a Rick Steves backpack and a day pack. It does seem odd that I could potentially book the ferry in one direction, but not the other--as though all the boats are piling up in Sorrento. There must be a seasonally triangular route.

You're welcome. :O)

Just curious, where are you going from Naples? Are you flying out of there or catching a train onwards at Centrale? Just thought I'd ask as there's a direct bus - a nice bus - from Sorrento to the Naples airport.

Kathy, perhaps I should rethink my Naples/Sorrento visit. My plan was to fly into Naples (from Palermo) in the morning, go directly to the Museo Archeologico that day (checking my bags at the Museo for the day), then proceed to Sorrento. Then I'll have three days to visit Pompeii and Vesuvius, hike the Amalfi coast and rest (this is the midpoint of my trip), and then return to Napoli Centrale to take the train to Rome/Florence. But perhaps it would be simpler just to take the direct bus from the airport to Sorrento first, settle in, and ride the Circumvesuviana back and forth without bags. Going back to Napoli C on the Circumvesuviana, as I said earlier, might be less of a problem than going out of Naples on a crowded train (even for this 71-year-old woman).

I like this idea, Joanne; especially as you're coming into the airport where the Curreri bus departs. Here's the information for it:

We day-tripped to Pompeii very easily from Sorrento but skipped Vesuvius as you can see it so well from the scavi and across the bay from Sorrento.
