Ferry Service out of Sorrento

I have a quick one.....I see multiple ferry services out of Sorrento. is one better than the other? More reliable? One cheaper than the other? Or....all about the same? Thanks!

Note that they are all weather-dependent. Safe travels!

Marc, thanks for reply. I have visited that site! No comparisons as I was looking for....just a listing of schedules and operators. I'll keep digging.....on some googles I have seen, stay away from the operator Alilauro. Some have just said.....overpriced, not a friendly crew. Some have also said that they paid extra for the Blue Grotto on that line.....then when they get over there.....the line makes an excuse that its too busy....then all of a sudden ....the boat leaves! But do not offer that part of the refund back? I don't know? Will keep checking reviews. Thanks!

Services south of Naples don't quite work as well as in northern Italy. There's just an assumed attitude of acceptable chaos, things aren't as efficient , organized, or easy.
Good luck!

Well, I noticed that Ferry Company A will not tell you that "Hey, you could leave 35 minutes earlier for Capri over at Company B!"

Really, there are more important things to know, like month of year (at least two "schedules" per year, on and off season), the fact that Positano has a very small dock and can't take very large ferries at all, the long distances, and the fact that many boats are sealed behind a few glass windows and no deck seating - particularly for long runs like Capri. I also discovered that our RETURN boat from Capri left from a different slip, almost 1/4 mile from the slip where we arrived. I didn't have time to learn "where" that is posted around the marina on Capri. Note that ferries don't run after dusk.

Your ferry company will urge you to buy your return ticket before you set out in the morning. Crowding is so severe in this area that it's good advice, whether you like being fenced-in or not. And don't plan on the last boat of the day ... ...

Also good advice about how things are in southern Italy!

Thanks all for the input.....I do appreciate it! Yes, it the past two days or so.....really chaotic at these southern ports. More than one person has commented that it really did not matter if you purchased your ferry tickets months in advance.......these companies would sell tickets in the morning/just prior to departure at their gates.....not accounting for presales! If you showed up for what you perceived your 9:30am booking.....showed your reservation....only to be told...."boat is full, take the next ferry"......Is this all true? Should I pre book? Or just get to the dock (Sorrento) early and buy then? Is there a formula?

Sounds like I have some challenges down the road....

Thanks!
