Ferry schedule from Varenna (Lake Como) to Bellagio in November 2017

Hello,
I will be staying in Bellagio from November 10 - 13, 2017. I will be arriving by train to Varenna via Milano, but don't want to make my train reservation until I can figure out the winter ferry timetable from Varenna to Bellagio. I have been searching for a couple days now for a clear answer on Lake Como's ferry timetable, but it still seems to be as clear and mud to me. Should I take the train from Milano to the town of Lake Como, and then a ferry to Bellagio (but I don't see a clear schedule for that either)?

I downloaded both the Winter ferry timetables (see 1st link below) and the Middle lake ferry service (see 2nd link below), which clearly won't work for me because it goes from 2 Ottobre to 5 Novembre.

Any information you can provide me would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

The train from Milano is an unreserved Regionale, so no reservations are possible.

Thank you Sam for responding to my question, but I wasn't asking about the train schedule from Milan to Varenna. I was asking about the Lake Como ferry schedule from Varenna to Bellagio (please see my email above) Can you help me with that?

Definitely take the train from Milan to Varenna. The ferry from the town of Como could take up to 2 hours, depending on which one you take. The fast ferry takes about an hour. Of course, if the weather is nice, this might be a good option for touring the lake. Since the Milan-Varenna train is a regionale, just but tickets for the next available one when you arrive in Milan. The walk from the train station to the ferry dock is about 10 minutes downhill. Buy tickets for the next ferry to Bellagio. If there is long wait (should be no more than 30 minutes), there are a couple of outdoor bars adjacent to the ferry dock where you can grab a snack and a beverage and enjoy the scenery while you wait (assuming decent weather). We were just there in mid-October and the ferry ran about every 30 minutes to Bellagio. Make sure to ask which dock you need to use as there are 2 docks in Varenna close to each other.

EDIT: The car ferry schedule is posted for Nov 6-March 24, 2018. Passengers are allowed on these ferries so you can at least see the schedule for that. Scroll to the bottom for departures from Varenna to Bellagio. The schedule lists weekdays and holidays separately.

When I went to the ferry website, it listed the timetables above as the "autumn" schedule. Apparently, the winter schedule is not posted yet. However, there is a phone number to call. Why not try? By the way, there is no town called Lake Como--it is Como. Some ferries from Como in the above schedule do go to Bellagio. They are the high-speed, more expensive than the slow boat variety, and are shown in red on the schedule. The ferry trip from Varenna to Bellagio is a much shorter distance, by the way, than going from Como to Bellagio. Good luck. If you have an Italian-speaking friend to help you call, just in case the person who answers does not speak English, that might be helpful. Also to note, though you probably already know this, Europeans write out the date with the day of the month first, then the month. Good luck and have a wonderful time.

Correction to my previous response: The above ferry schedule from Como to Bellagio is the winter schedule, but the above schedule from Varenna to Bellagio is the autumn schedule. They seem not to have posted the midlake schedule for winter yet. Why not call your hotel in Bellagio or email them for an updated schedule for midlake ferry times in winter?

Based on the links you posted, you've already been to the lake timetables website and chosen this one for Lake Como.

You picked the winter timetable that gets you from Bellagio back to Varenna (Como - Colico). You need to look at the one that goes the other direction (Colico - Como) to find departures from Varenna to Bellagio.

The departures from Varenna to Bellagio appear to be much fewer than those from Bellagio to Varenna. Depending on the train schedules, you may arrive with plenty of time to walk to the ferry or not. You may have to wait a long time for the next ferry or not. The same goes for when you go back to Varenna to take the train.

If available in winter, and weather and scheduling permitting, it's a lot of fun to take an all day ferry all around the lake, stopping at the various towns. We did that loop twice, but we were there in June many years ago.

"I will be arriving by train to Varenna via Milano, but don't want to make my train reservation until I can figure out the winter ferry timetable from Varenna to Bellagio."

As others have said, the trains from Milano Centrale to Varenna-Esino are local trains (Regionale). They do not accept reservations for those trains. You are safe to purchase tickets at the last minute when you know the departure time that suits you.

"I will be staying in Bellagio from November 10 - 13, 2017".

Then you need to view the Winter Timetable PDFs:

Ferry and fast service Colico - Como (06/11/2017 - 24/03/2018) or
Car ferry (06/11/2017 - 24/03/2018)

Como is south, Colico is north. Bellagio is south of Varenna, so you want the ferry schedule going south. Imagine the hyphen is an arrow. Graphic design in Italy is often challenging. Plus, the month and day are in reverse to the American standard.

If you need help figuring out the schedule and your ferry options, simply let the board know what time you expect to get to Milano Centrale and one of us can help you.
