We'll be in Sorrento from April 12-15th at Il Roseto B&B. Will we be able to walk to a ferry to take to Capri, rest of Amalfi, etc? Do they run this time of year to Amalfi or should we take the bus? Hoping everyone can help me with some suggestions for particular ferries, etc. Thanks!
I just want to add that you should be flexible here; when we were in the area late last summer we followed the advice in the RS book to go to the tourist agency and get a sheet listing all the ferries, but when we were in Positano there were ferries not listed on the sheet. So it may be worth it to go down to the dock and look at the schedules there.
Unfortunately I cannot help you, Matt, but I'd like to tag another related question along to yours and hopefully someone can help us both. We're going to the Amalfi coast region in October and everything we've read says that the ferries run between Capri & Sorrento April-October. Does this mean that we can't see Capri in mid-October? Or does it mean that the ferries run til the END of October???
Matt,
You might find the information you need at www.capri.net/en/ship-timetable (click "Sorrento-Capri" in the Destination area). In addition to Ferries, you could use the Hydrofoils (Aliscafi) which are quicker but more expensive.
There's good information in the Guidebooks regarding the trip to Capri, but I'd have to check regarding frequency of sailings at that time of year.
Be sure to verify the time of the last sailing back to Sorrento, and allow lots of time to get back to Marina Grande (the Funicular can be busy in the late afternoon).
Buon Viaggio!
There is a service between Sorrento and Capri, weather permitting, all year round. As there is between Sorrento and Naples.
Just a warning, the start and finish dates of the seasonal coastal services are a moveable feast, as is the level of service. In 2008 we were in Sorrento mid April and despite their site saying that one of the services was up and running, it did not start until 26 April. Last year most of the seasonal services shut down a couple of weeks earlier than usual, we missed out again!
So you may be either pleasantly surprised or disapointed but whichever have a great holiday.
