Leaving Friday for our two week trip to Italy ! Wondered about taking the ferry one way from Sorrento to Amalfi and the bus the other.Which works best ?Looks like the ferry only runs twice a day .Do we need advance tickets or buy when we arrive in Sorrento ?
It is crowded with the unprepared and hot there so buy it in advance as one less thing to worry about.
If you get that take the buses back as they run later than the ferry and there are more options
you might want to check if its weather dependant ( how rough the sea is). we have been caught before trying to get a ferry from sorrento along the coast. not 100% sure, amalfi does have a largish dock, so maybe OK?( sorrento dock is large and protected)
The local sita bus can be CROWDED, beyond belief!
There was a few of us, so we caught a private van from sorrento to Amalfi, last year, a few dollars more per person, but SO worth it. we got to see much more than the bus and much more comfort, as it takes a long time, with the traffic/bends.
hope this helps.
it is good to know all your transport options in this area
Thanks for the help. Had not thought about weather. Glennlorrainer, do you remember the name of the private transport ? There will be 6 of us .
There is also the CitySightSeeing bus from Sorrento to Amalfi. www.city-sightseeing.it/en/sorrento-en/
It is about 10Euros one way, and then you can buy a second ticket for return for 6Euros. It is an alternative to the crowded Sita buses and you won't be packed in like sardines. It isn't a HOHO bus, but you can get off and tour around and then choose your return home method accordingly. You can also download the app for convenience.
