Ferry from Positano to Salerno

Hi Again
Want to thank all those that helped out as to the train from Salerno to Rome however, according to the ferry
site for the area it keeps telling me on the daily ferry company (I believe Travelmar) that there is no longer a ferry doing this route.
Have I got this right.
JR on my previous post said he took the ferry from Salerno to Positano.
Any help is appreciated.

Shelley, likely nothing is coming up because that ferry isn't currently running: it's a route that normally operates April through Oct. but has been suspended because of COVID until at least May 17th. Did you see this?

As your trip isn't until next year, I wouldn't stress about ferry schedules right now: too much can happen between now and then.

You would need a backup plan in case the ferry doesn't run due to weather/high seas. There is just a dock in Positano and you walk up the ferry plank to get on the ferry. The last time I went the ferry was almost cancelled but they decided to go. It was quite the adventure just getting on, with the rise and fall of the boarding plank. The ship crew were pretty much lifting the slower passengers up the little walkway. They had to time it to the wave action.

Also note that Positano can’t dock the big boats used from, say, Sorrento. You might want to take a pill on a windy day.

A third vote with Wendy and Tim on a backup plan. As they've stated, the ferries can't dock in Positano when the sea is too rough to do so. Obviously, you'd have little-to-no advance warning should Mom Nature decide to throw a wrench in the machinery so have a Plan B in your back pocket.

Thanks Kathy- I was looking at the Travelmar Ferry schedule and they did not give this notification. Sounds reasonable in
view of the Virus disrupting nearly everything. I will check again in early June.
Tim * Wendy - back up plan is to take bus from Positano-Sorrento-train to Naples-Rome.
Have been to Positano before and did take the ferry to Amalfi so have seen the beautiful coastline.

Okaydoke but again, if your trip would be a year or more away, the schedule for THIS summer is still too early to be accurate for 2021. It'll give you an idea of times/prices but, well, a lot could change. I'd be cautious about things working as we've been able, in the past, to assume that they will! πŸ™„

Oh I am well aware of things changing. What I like to do is use this for approx. timing and somewhat pricing
for budget purposes. This is our 7th trip to Europe, but our first trip was to the Amalfi coast in 2006 so I know
there have been a lot of changes.
Thank you again for you insight.

Shelley, a back up plan is important. We did this trip in August and it was a delightful ride. No weather problems what-so-ever, and docking in Positano was a breeze. In the event of bad weather, I would look at the bus as a back up. It will take longer. You can also get a cab but that will cost at least 120 Euro if not more for one way. We used the ferry on the return trip as well, then caught the train in Salerno to Florence to continue our journey. At the ferry dock in Positano, thankfully there was a luggage service that would haul your bags for you up to your hotel. So glad they were there. Could not have imagined having to haul our bags up all those steps. As mentioned on your other post, the train trip to Salerno from Rome was easy. Weather permitting, do the ferry - it went by fast and they basically hug the coastline so you aren't too far out. Great scenery and a lot of fun!

We spent 4 nights in Salerno last May. We wanted to go to Capri but the seas were too rough every day except the last day there. The ferry only went as far as Positano.

Hey Shelly, me and the family were in Italy last May and we took the train from Rome to Salerno then took the ferry to Positano. We caught an early train then booked the earliest ferry we could. I think we had about 20-30 minutes to catch the ferry and we cut it close. We had prebooked train and ferry tickets and kept our fingers crossed with the weather. The sea was rough in the morning and our ferry captain didn't slow a bit. The sea spray was terrible, but the trip back in the evening along the Amalfi coast was a trip highlight. We stayed the night in Salerno.
