ferry from Naples to Sorrento

We are flying into Naples on April 19 at noon and are headed down to Positano to stay. I want to take the ferry to Sorrento this time instead of the train. Any recommendations for which ferry line to use? Are they all essentially the same in terms of accommodations and cost? I know the schedules change in April to have more frequent ferries, correct? Should I buy online or just head down from the airport and buy at the port? How much should a cab ride be to the ferry and do all ferries leave from one location? Thanks!

We took the ferry to Sorrento. You can just buy your ticket there. Make sure you have multiple credit cards with you or Euros. We had no trouble with buying ticket to Sorrento but two days earlier we took only one credit card in an attempt to make a day trip to Capri and card didn’t work.

Taxis are fixed price. Ask at information booth when you arrive. I was in Naples for a week and in my experience taxi drivers are always trying to get more so make sure you clarify before you get in (even though fixed price-they will charge you extra for a/c and tolls for example).

Ferry is a fast ferry so not outside at all. More like being inside an airplane. Also you end up below the town of Sorrento so we then had to take a bus up. In contrast, train station is in town.

Our hotel was close to ferry station and we thought it would be a nice boat ride but it really is only transportation. I have read there is a bus that goes directly from airport to Sorrento. I don’t know anything about it as we stayed in Naples first but personally I would look into it. Far less trouble I would think than taking the ferry.
