We will be travelling by ferry from Naples to Catania in September. My question is; should we buy our ferry ticket now or is it better to wait and buy them the day we want to leave?
Wow, that's going to be one long boat ride. You do know the train is faster and cheaper, right? I'll assume you have a car with you on the ferry. In any case, if the travel date is set, there is absolutely no reason why you should wait, especially if you want your own cabin. Personally, I don't wing-it in Italy anymore, even in september
Buy now, you can score discounts, especially for cabins.
Lol yes I realize the ferry is a 9 hour trip. We just figured we could use it as a hotel room for one night and not miss a day of sight seeing. We will not have a car until we reach Catania. And it is funny you mention "winging it". Because, we do have a Hotel reserved for the first three days in Sicily, but after that we are "winging it". My husband has never been one for a schedule. He just wants to get into the rental car and see where we end up. We did this in Germany and had a blast.
Michelle, just beware high season ends a little late in Europe than in US, meaning you can still risk finding places fully booked or so by "seeing were we end at".
