We want to take the Corsia/Sardinia ferry from Livorno, Italy, to Bastia, Corsica. It takes a little over 4 hours and feel it is foolish to get anything but the basic fare. Has anyone ever done this trip and what does the basic fare include? The website does not tell you. Do they include seats? Can you use the pool? You don't have to stand the whole time, I hope. The other alternative is to get a day room which seems foolish for two adult travelers with only carry-on.

It depends on the ship used on that segment.
That company uses different types of ships on the various segments. The posher ships are for the longer segments.
See below link for the description of each ship. The Livorno Bastia may use any of the following ships:
Corsica Victoria
Sardinia Vera
Sardinia Regina
Mega Express II

I once took a ferry on that route and don't recall any difference from other daytime ferries I've taken. There will be a variety of restaurant, bar, and open seating areas available. There may be unattended luggage racks near the entrance to the boat, or else you just lug bags up the stairs with you and keep them at your seat.
