We will be in Sorrento for 4 or 5 days the last week of April. We plan on doing mostly day trips from there. We are trying to decide if we should stay in Capri for a couple of nights. While It looks appealing, if we commit to specific days and make hotel reservations and ferries are cancelled, that would be a hassle versus picking a day when the weather looks fine and doing a day trip (or two if we decide we like it so much and want to go back). I know weather can be unpredictable (hiked in the snow last Sept in the Dolomites),
but does anyone have any experience on traveling from Sorrento to Capri in late April?
We were in Sorrento for two weeks in 2023 in late April/ early May with no issues on the day we went to Capri. The docks in Sorrento and Capri are both large and cancellations that time of year could happen but it would be surprising.
If your interested, here's my Trip Report, if you scroll through it you'll find my report on Capri on Day 5.

We've had some bad experiences with staying on islands! We went to Sicily in April a few years ago. We spent a couple days in Lipari. The day we were supposed to leave, none of the boats where going back to Sicily because the water was too rough. I spent a lot of time trying to reach my Taormina hotel by email and phone . They never responded. So not only did we pay for an expensive Taormina hotel, we never stayed there! We did spend a couple hours there and decided it was no great loss.
I would make sure your Capri hotel is insured in some way, if that would matter to you. Either by trip insurance, and if I do something like that in the future, I'd check my Chase card and see if they'd cover that.
We also were in the Dolomites in September 2024. I imagine we got the same snow. It was beautiful the week before our stay and the week after! I have to say it was pretty hiking though quite cold and icy.
We were on the AC/Sorrento in May, 2023, when an unusual set of storms came in, and lasted almost all week. The ferries were frequently closed during that time. It's impossible to predict so far into the future, so a Plan B would be beneficial. Good luck!
