Ferry booking for the Amalfi Coast in High Season

Good day, We are traveling to the Amalfi Coast next summer, and we will be arriving in Salerno by train. We need to get to Praiano, and I have found we have two choices. Ferry to Amalfi (or Positano) then a bus, or 2 buses with a change in Amalfi. We are also staying a night on Capri as well.

First question is, do I need to prebook the ferry from Salerno to Amalfi (or Positano) in advance, or can we walk right on if we choose this option?

Second, do I need to prebook the ferry to Capri from Positano? And if we do, should I pre-book the return for the following day as well?

Also, what would be a better choice, Ferry or Hydrofoil for one of my teens who tends to get sea sick?

Thanks in advance & Happy New Year!

You do not need to pre-book. Just walk right up and get a ticket for the time to your destination. When you arrive in Salerno, the dock to the ferry isn't that far...just head west. Take the ferry as much as you can when you are there. It costs more, but such a beautiful and relaxing way to get along the coast. The buses will be crowded, hot and not enjoyable. There are ferries going all the time during high season along the coast. Depending on what time you will be arriving will probably determine if you will want to ferry to Amalfi or Positano. Also, the buses only run in one direction during certain times of the day. I believe Praiano is only a few miles from Positano. You may want to check into how much a driver/taxi would be? Or there may be small boats that could get you from Positano to Praiano...I can't remember.
Positano to Capri is a straight, easy, beautiful ferry ride.

Enjoy!!
