Ferrari museum

I promised my husband a trip to the Ferrari museum. Our trip starts in Rome. Any suggestions on the best way to get there? Should we take a tour or try it on our own?

Check first, I think at the moment there are TWO Ferrari museums. And yes, train is going to be the easiest/best way unless you have some connections with the company, in which case they would send a driver for you. IIRC there are also Alfa, Fiat and Lambo museums nearby, most carmakers are in the same general area.

I went with my family a few years ago. I would suggest you train to Bologna and then rent a car. It's about an hour drive.

There are two museums. One is the Museo Ferrari Maranello which is the museum near the factory. It has various model years and a F1 trophy room that was impressive. If you want to do a factory tour (not really worth it BTW), you get the tour from this location. You can also rent a Ferrari (or Lambo) from a few third party vendors at the entrance to the museum.

The second is the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena (about 30 minute away by car). This is the location of the original factory and has an impressive space of all white with various model year cars laid out in a large, open space. It also has a nice cafe to have lunch.

You can buy a ticket for both at a discount.

We loved the museum in Maranello! You will need a car at least for that day, but the train to Bologna will be much faster than driving from Rome. Where else are you going during your trip?

FYI, there is a terrific pizzeria on Marnello, Pizzeria La Bufala. One of the best we've ever had, and we eat a LOT of pizza here.

Thank you all. We are doing a 12 day cruise through western Mediterranean that starts and ends in Rome. We tacked on additional time at the beginning and end to do some other exploring.

Take the train to Modena, not Bologna. Time your arrival so that you can meet the Ferrari museums' shuttle bus from there. I would go to Maranello first and the Modena branch later, so that you're closer to the train station if you accidentally miss the last shuttle.

netmartin, depending on where you live, try to contact a nearby Ferrari dealership and see if they can help get you some heightened level of service.
