Has anyone gone to the Ferrari Musuem without a rental car?
I am riding the train from Venice to Florence and was thinking of taking a brief detour to Modena to check out the museum and racetrack.
From looking at the web from other people, doesn't really sound like there's a train station near the museum.
Unless I'm wrong.
The factory and museum are actually in Maranello, about 20 km from Modena. Use this website to get a month-old description of how to get from the Modena train station to the museum in Maranello....apparently pretty easy. http://tinyurl.com/ypy2z4
that's a pretty awesome link.
Thanks.
Sounds like more than a brief detour than I thought.
Do it!
I have never been there and have no interest in it but I have been in similar situations. You will experience the local culture in a smaller town and the fun of finding your way around. When you get home you'll be able to tell your friends how you nearly got lost on the way to the awesome museum you visited. It might even be a more interesting story than the museum itself.
Good point.
I'll take a closer look at this.
We did the museum about 4 years ago and my husband an avid F1 fan completely adored it. There is almost no chance of touring the factory unless you are a Ferrari owner and have you dealership set it up.
We took the train to Bologna then to Modena. There is a short bus ride to Maranello. We stayed the night there and wished we had not. The museum takes two hours if you go over every item with a magnifying class (I know from experience:) and after that there is not much to the town. We stayed in the Best Western and found it passable but not terribly clean. I would stay in Bologna or even Milano. Those who are so inclined will get a kick out of hearing the test track if they are up and running that day. It is audible from everywhere.
Can you take a tour of the Ferrari factory? My husband and I are going to Italy for 2 weeks and I am surprising him with a day trip to Modena/Maranello on our way to Venice and I know the museum is there... but what about entrance to the factory???
Anthony:
I was there in October of '07 and toured the museum. It was worth it - very well done. We stayed about 8km away in the little hill town of Castelvetro at Locanda Del Fuedo - a fantastic inn with great food and wonderful prices. Have fun.
