Has anyone gone to both of these museums? If so, did you go with a tour group or book tickets and transfers yourself? Would you recommend one museum over the other? We will be staying in Bologna.
When we were in Bologna, a member of our family took a bus from Bologna to the Ferrari Museum, a bus to the Enzo Ferrari Museum (I'm 99% it was a bus run by the museums) to meet the rest of us, and then we all trained back to Bologna. It was very straight forward. The person who went off on their own is not an experience traveler and didn't have any trouble with transport. The factory museum ticket was purchased in advance, but those of us who only went the the Enzo Ferrari Museum just bought tickets on the spot.
It's entirely doable on your own. The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena is more about Enzo and the street cars, while the Museo Ferrari in Maranello is more about the race team.
I got the 9:23 train from Bologna to Modena and walked to the Enzo Ferrari Museum (there's a discount if you show your train ticket). There is a shuttle between the two museums, but the schedule didn't work out for me, so I took the public bus. There's a timetable at the museum showing both the shuttle and the public bus schedule. The public bus leaves from the other side of town, but that gave me an excuse and time to stop for lunch at the Albinelli market.
For the return trip, I took the shuttle, then walked around Modena for an hour or so.
I went on a Saturday last March and there was a short line for a ticket at the museum, and the shuttle was overfull coming back, so if you're going during a higher season, it may be a good idea to book in advance.

It was so, but not anymore. In fact in the two museums there are different car expositions.
At the moment in Maranello the main exposition is about technologies and evolution, called "Supercars, evolution of unicity".
Brand new exposition in Modena with the title "The Greatest Hits –Music Legends and their Ferraris": The exhibition explores the relationship between Ferrari and music, examining the connection between the brand’s cars and prominent figures from the international music scene. Should be there until beginning of 2027.

Thank you for the great information.
