I'm going to be visiting my husband who will be on an extended business trip in Italy in May. Since he will be working, I plan to take 1 week to travel by myself (and spend 1 week with him). I'm planing on 3 days in Florence and 3 days in CT (traveling Florence to CT on a Wednesday morning and depart CT for Rome on Saturday morning). I have been to Rome, and the Amalfi coast on another trip and will be going to Venice with my husband prior to setting off on my own. I get the impression that the CT is pretty safe, but my question is will I be bored by staying there alone for that long? I love being by the coast and plan to take a day to visit Portofino, so I think I'll be fine, but just thought I should get another opinion or two. I've never traveled alone for any extended period of time before (only for day trips), so are there any particular tips I should know about before being alone in Florence or CT (oh, and also maybe making a stop in Pisa in between).
Patricia, You might want to delete your duplicate Thread on this subject. It will be easier to keep track of replies if they're all in the same place. I don't believe you'll be bored in the Cinque Terre, especially as you have at least one day trip planned to Portofino. You'll be able to enjoy a wonderful area (and of course some Pesto in the place where it was invented), and possibly hike the trails between the five villages (if you're so inclined). I wouldn't bother with a visit to Pisa, but it's certainly possible on the trip from Florence to the Cinque Terre. Regarding "safety", I don't believe you'll have any problems but of course be sure to wear a Money Belt! I travel "solo" much of the time and haven't had any problems so far. However, I'm a "larger" male so the concerns won't be the same as for a female travelling along. I'm sure the ladies on the HelpLine will be able to offer lots of good advice. You may want to pick up a copy of the Italy 2011 Guidebook, as that has LOTS of information and sightseeing suggestions that will help your trip go well. I'm planning on making a return visit to the C.T. this year, and quite looking forward to it! It will be a great place to "unwind" after strenuous travels in other parts of Europe, and I really don't care that there isn't as much to do there as in other areas. I plan to relax with a glass of Wine and anything that has Pesto, and just enjoy the moment and the incredible ocean views (and perhaps hike the trails again, and try to beat my previous time)! Happy travels!
Thanks Ken. I didn't realize I could delete a post, but I've figured it out now.
