Hi all. My two teenage sons and I are going to Italy for nearly 3 weeks in mid June. Their first trip to Italy; I was there 20+ years ago.
I've been stalking this channel for a long time and valued all the insights and advice. I'd welcome your thoughts on how I've pulled together our plans -- big mistakes? as well as recommendations for restaurants or places to visit as we wander.
My "rules" as I went into the planning
1. We need some sort of a plan for every day. I know my kids and if there isn't a thing to get to, they will stall. I've tried to do a mix of high, medium and low energy. I tried to veer toward lower price points for tours in case we need to bail from exhaustion.
2. I do not want to rent a car. I've driven in Italy, but felt it would be too stressful with my boys. So we are doing trains and car service.
3. Part of this trip was built around my youngest son's interest in seeing Parmesan cheese being made and catacombs, and my oldest boy's interest in fancy cars.
4. Lake Como has been on my bucket list, but as I got into planning, I added Venice and extended our trip by a few days to include. Honestly, probably one stop too many but there you are.
5. We are mainly staying Airbnbs so we can do frequent laundry and pack light.
6. Interests primarily lie with history rather than art or churches. Oh, and gelato.
