Feedback for Italian Lodging

My daughter and I purchased our plane tickets yesterday, so it’s official! This will be her first time in Italy (& in Europe) and my fifth time in Italy.

Have you stayed at these hotels or recommend something different, especially any charming B&B type atmosphere for one location? I like to stay within the 100-150 Euro/night range and bump it up for a few special places or where needed for the larger cities.

Bergamo - Gombit Hotel located in the upper, funicular portion of town
Ferrara - Hotel Touring
Salerno - Hotel Plaza
Amalfi - La Casarella (this one is non refundable)
Rome - I would like to try a different hotel. I’ve stayed near the Pantheon (liked that area), and we stayed near the Colosseum during the RS tour.

And, just for reference, here’s our other locations that I reserved where I have stayed previously:
Stresa - Hotel Boston (budget) & surprising her with our last night on Isola Bella at Boutique Hotel Elvezia. I did this during my last stay in Stresa, and it was the perfect ending to a favorite location!
Milan - Hotel Berna
Venice - Hotel Ala

Thank you!
Jean

HI Jean,
Sounds like you have planned a wonderful itinerary with your daughter! I just booked our trip to Sicily for next September. We will stay in Rome for two nights before heading to Palermo. In the past we have stayed in the Termini area. Since this is a short stay we wanted to be closer to the Pantheon, etc. We were looking for a B & B or Boutique Hotel. I read a couple reviews and decided to book at Hotel due Torri. The price is in your 100-150 per night range, free cancellation. www.duetorriroma.com. [email protected]
As usual I will look forward to your trip report!

I stayed in a single room at Hotel Touring in Ferrara this fall. I was quite happy with it - good location, good breakfast, clean, no problem to hold luggage there, etc. It would be walkable from the train station but I chose to take a taxi with my luggage. A nearby traditional restaurant, osteriadellacampana.com, was very welcoming.

I have not stayed in that Bergamo hotel, but it's obviously in a good location.

Glad to hear that you liked that Ferrara hotel, Laura! And, thank you for the restaurant recommendation! I pulled it up on TripAdvisor, and each dish in the photos looks amazing!

Janis, thank you for the suggestion for the Rome hotel. I went ahead and reserved the hotel you recommended as a refundable reservation. This morning I was searching some more since with Laura’s recommendation for keeping the Ferrara hotel & it being more modern, I wanted something a little quirky for my daughter’s experience in Rome. I found one - Hub Pantheon. It’s a mock-type B&B on the 4th floor of a building next to the Pantheon with its view out the window &enough reviews that I trust the 9.2 rating.

And Janis, our Mother/Daughter trip report will be fun to write since we can have some perspective from both the 40-year old and 63 year old in it! ; )

We've been to Venice twice- stayed at Hotel Ala both times. It's prefect in so many ways.

Salerno- we were going to stay at Hotel Plaza but then I think I had to change our dates and it wasn't available or something- anyway we stayed at Hotel Montestella- just a few min walk down the street from station. Really liked it. Rooms are small but super updated and comfy. Nice bkft. Was glad we did- Hotel Plaza is right across from station, a bit hectic around there.

I don't know that place in Bergamo but we stayed here back in 2013 and really enjoyed it. http://www.casamariolupo.it/pag.asp?l=UK&sez=home

We had a pretty large apartment to ourselves, and ate breakfast cooked by the owner each morning. Particularly charming was to see him kiss his young son goodbye as he went off to school.

Michael, that looks like a very nice place to stay, plus the Italian family environment! Unfortunately, we’re only staying for one night at that town, and this lodging is requiring a longer stay to reserve.

Check out Panda Hotel in Rome Rooms over looking the street are charming not true for other rooms. Next to the Spanish Steps and metro train.
