Reading a post on another site that Italy is going to gate off the Trevi fountain and will be requiring people to buy tickets starting in June? Anyone else heard of this is happening? Understand the overcrowding is a problem. As well as limiting the number of visitors to the most popular sites in Italy due to overcrowding and vandalism. My understanding is that this is not just for the jubilee year but also will be a permanent change to tourism.
Also that many cities in Italy will be raising city tourist tax, so when you check out of your hotel you will need to pay up to 25 euros, in cash only. (which I knew they did already but it was usually around 5 euros).
Just some changes that will be happening quickly I guess. Anyone else heard of these changes or experienced them currently? Other thoughts? Thanks.
