FedEx in Venice, Rome & Florence?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone used FedEx to ship purchases back home and did you have any problems?

Hi Hazel,

A purchase that I bought in Europe was shipped by the shop using UPS. I received it promptly with no problems. I did have to pay duty (under $20 for a pottery purchase of about $250). UPS delivered and just provided an invoice where I could send the payment by check.

Most shops will offer to ship for you and are very used to doing it and pack the items well. I don't think you'll have any problems having them arranging shipping for you.

Just be aware that shipping can be very expensive.

We just returned from Venice and FedExed a package home containing some glass purchases so we also had them packed. It was very expensive but part of that was because we did not stipulate to ship it the slowest (least expensive) route. A 10lb package cost us $175 to ship home! At least the glass made it in one piece and was worth more than that.

I used Mail Boxes Etc. a few times (which shipped UPS)...everything arrived fine. And no kidding that it is VERY expensive to ship. A normal small box of stuff cost over 100 euros to ship home.

You might want to consider just buying a cheap suitcase at your last destination and checking it as luggage. In Rome I bought a 13 euro small suitcase from a guy on the street around the Termini station. I wrapped things like wine, etc., in bubble wrap and checked it as luggage on the way home. Worked like a charm and was a whole heck of a lot cheaper than shipping!
