Feast of San Gennaro

I have not been able to find any information online about the Feast of San Gennaro. We will be arriving in Naples on September 19. What should we expect? Are their events we can attend?

There will be a religious procession through the streets. Contact your hotel for more information.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping to get a little information ahead of time so we could hit the ground running. I'll keep searching online.

Here's a good description of the religious portion of the holiday.

Keep in mind many shops will be closed and the city extremely busy.

After the religious part, you'll find a carnival atmosphere, and after dark one of the best fireworks displays anywhere lasting hours!

Gerri, thank you so much for your reply. We are staying at Hotel Piazza Bellini and have dinner reservations nearby at Osteria de Carmela. Do you think we can see the Fireworks from this area? We have a terrace room so it would be so great to just seat there and watch.

Hi Anne, you should be able to see fireworks everywhere in the city. We've gone up to Castel Sant'Elmo on one occasion and had a 360 view over the city. Another time we headed to the port, but that was extremely crowded. Just keep in mind that they go on for hours, so your first night may be noisy.
