FCO to Naples

Hello, fellow travelers. I am traveling to Naples via Rome in a few weeks and have two questions.

1) I’m planning to take the Fiumucino Express to Napoli Centrale. Is this an express bus? I’m not sure I’m reading the timetables correctly. It looks like the bus stops at Ciampino. But several posts from other travel forums seem to indicate this is an express route from FCO to Naples.

2) How do I go from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3? I’m traveling with a carryon only so I don’t need to exit to baggage claim. Is there a tram that connects these terminals? Or is it walking only? (I have flashbacks to my 20s when I could not find anyone at FCO to tell me how to reach one of the terminals and the signage was poor).

Thanks in advance!

Signage is good and you walk between the terminals. Distances are short. An express route does not mean non-stop.

Thanks for that clarification. I guess my question is: have you personally taken this bus and does it stop anywhere else other than Napoli Centrale?

Stopping at Ciampino would not be a big deal. It isn’t too far from FCO, closer to Rome center. And then bus would get on Autostrada to Naples.

So it turns out, my flight arrived in Terminal 3 and the buses area is just around the corner from baggage claim. Really quite convenient.

However, my flight was delayed and I had to take the 4:55 pm FCO Express. This meant slogging through rush hour traffic, plus stops at Ciampino (no one to pick up) and Caserta. All in all it was a 3.5+ hour bus ride. It's a typical bus, nothing fancy. Seats are tight and not for the tall. There's free water but no power outlets. So make sure you have a power bank with you.

For 25 euros, it is a cheaper alternative to the fast train -- just don't take the 4:55 pm bus. The fast train (Freccia or Italo) is a much better use of time IMO.
