Hello, we will be traveling from Rome to JFK in May on Alitalia. Our flight departs at 10:40 AM and we were planning on getting to the airport at 7:00 AM.. Should this be sufficient if we need to check bags?
Also can you check in and print your boarding passes the day before?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question! This is our first time traveling internationally.. so a little anxious.
Any info is greatly appreciated! I keep reading horror stories about Alitalia.
That is enough time to check bags. I've taken about ten or more European trips in the last 4 years. Sometimes you can checkin online sometimes you can't as it is related to security when flying back to the USA.
It is waste of time and energy to read horror stories especially if it not about safety and every airline has horror stories from customers. You already bought the ticket so what is the point.
In recent years one of our best flights -- service wise, seat comfort, etc., -- was on Alitalia from JFK to Rome. I had anticipated much less from prior postings and stories. Our preferred airline, Lufthansa, who has given us many great flights also give us our worst flight five years ago returning from Frankfurt. It is a dice roll these days.
We recently had four uneventful flights on Alitalia, no issues at all.
I've flown on Alitalia many times with mixed results. Sometimes the flight was terrific and other times...not so much.
If you arrive at 7am you will have plenty of time.
You can check in online 24 hours in advance like other airlines.
Buon viaggio,
I've made 11 trips to Italy and 6 of them were on Alitalia plus another to Istanbul. The only negative experience I had was returning from Firenze, they said my carry-on was too heavy and they made me check my bag. It got lost. I arrived home on January 1st, my bag full of soiled laundry followed on January 6th. I have always enjoyed my flights on Alitalia.
If one had to go by the horror stories online you’d never fly with any airline. And you wouldn’t drive a rental car either because there are plenty of horror stories with rental car companies as well.
That sums it very well. Now lets talk about airports I will never fly to or through again.
Thank you so much for the responses!
