FCO to ATH - Aegean Airlines Questions

Hi all,

After our time in Rome we plan to go to Athens. I called Aegean to confirm checking in bags, etc at the counter 3 hours before the flight to Athens from FCO. They said the counters only open 2 hours prior to the flight. Can anyone tell me how early they got to the airport and when the counters opened or lines started forming? I am trying to plan our pickup time from the city to the airport and want to make sure we arent waiting forever and at the sametime we have enough time to check bags and be one of the first in line and get through security. Is the fast track security worth it, we have a party of 8?

Side question was the app pretty accurate on check in terminal heard the flight can be out of 2 different terminals?

Thank you

Rome to Athens flights are considered "local" vs. international. Generally, the recommendation is to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before your flight. If you airline says the counters open 2 hours prior to flight, then there is no need to get there any earlier. You usually cannot show up very early and stand in line at the check in counter (hoping to be first in line) as the counter will probably be used by another airline.

We recently flew out of Terminal 1 on Ryanair --- FCO to Sicily. We took a 9:00 a.m. taxi from our Monti neighborhood hotel to the airport, leaving 3 hours before our noon flight because we planned to eat breakfast at the airport.

Terminal 1 is really nice, with lots of shops and restaurants. As folks who live in Italy have mentioned before on this forum, security was extremely fast and efficient. No need for removing shoes or taking liquids out. They even allow water bottles. I don't see any reason to pay for fast track security.
