Hi. My family at four and I are arriving in Rome on Sunday, June 10. We are staying in apartment near Piazza Navona. Our flight arrives around 8 AM in the morning and we cannot meet the owners of the apartment to leave our luggage until 11:30 AM. Two questions how best get to that area of town? Any recommendations on where to wait to meet the apartment owners? It will be a Sunday morning. Thank you so much.
The plane arrives at 8; you get to the 1st stop in the exit process by about 8:30, the next stop at about 9:00 (maybe a bit earlier). Train or taxi into the city? Let's say train - figure between waiting and the train ride it is now some time after 10:00. Get to the taxi, say about 10:15. Taxi to the apartment area (that's where I stay every year) is maybe 15 minutes. If it were me, I'd sit myself down by the Bernini fountain, grab a gelato and hug my family - you made it and the vacation has begun! That special hour can be your first experience of dolce far niente!
Robert, thank you for the reply. So to clarify you would take a train from Rome to which train station in central Rome and then take a taxi over to the area?
The Leonardo Express train will cost 14 euros times 4 = 56 Euros. You have four people in your party- correct?
The fixed rate for a taxi from FCO to the center of Rome is 48 Euros.
It might be better to take the taxi from the airport to your apartment.
Yes, thank you. There are 4 of us. Appreciate the response.
Ya, that is may recommendation also. Take a taxi - cheaper, easier. and direct. Second, ask the owner for a meeting point and take the taxi to that meeting point. It will take at least 30 minutes from the airport to the apartment even on a Sunday morning. And it could easily take a couple hours to get off the plane, clear immigration, find a restroom, freshen up a bit so your final wait may not be that long. At the meeting point while you are waiting, one can watch the luggage and the other three can do a loop walk around the block to see what is there.
Great idea. Thank you.
hey - you're gonna have a great trip! I like the advice to take a taxi, get to the meeting place, take turns watching the luggage. But MOST of all - no matter how tired you all are from the long flight, start your vacation! My friends and I (we're in Italy every year for a music festival) remind ourselves: we deserve this! Enjoy!
Don’t worry. If you check in luggage on the plane, there is no way you can be at the apartment before 10:30 or 11. The baggage claim in Rome takes longer than the whole trip from the airport to the city center,
