FCO Terminal 3 to Terminal 1

Hello, I've seen several threads on this topic but the latest is from 2016 - so I thought I'd get updated information, if there is any.

We will be arriving in Rome (FCO) on Monday, 6/26 at 9:10AM on American Airlines. From what I can tell, we will be arriving in terminal 3. Flightaware says our flight arrives at "Gate T3". I don't believe there is a "Gate T3", but this is rather an indication we are arriving at some gate in Terminal 3. Can someone confirm?

We then have a separate ticket to Venice (VCE) booked through Alitalia (not on the same booking). I believe this flight will depart from one of the "B Gates" in Terminal 1. Our flight departs FCO to VCE at 12:30pm. We will only have carry-on luggage.

After we arrive in Rome and move through passport/border control in Terminal 3, will we be able to move onto Terminal 1 without exiting security? Are there any tricks we should be aware of? We will be jetlagged so I'd like to have all our ducks in a row when we get there.

Thanks in advance!

You are coming from an extra Schengen destination and going to an intra Schengen destination.
Therefore you must go through security again before boarding the Venice bound flight.

If you are taking American flight 110, it arrives at terminal T3. It's a short walk to T1 where you'll check in for your flight to Venice and you will have to go through security after check in. . Make sure your carry on luggage fits Alitalia's specs which are sometimes strictly enforced and usually more stringent than American's. You shouldn't have a problem making the second leg of your unless your AA flight arrives very late.

Thanks for the replies. And thanks for the heads up on Alitalia's carry on requirements. I'll be sure to check that out.

When you say that it's a short walk, will we need to exit the Terminal 3 building and walk outside to the Terminal 1 building?

No need to get out in the rain (or the scorching sun). You can transfer from T3 to T1 all while enjoying the air conditioned buildings indoor. The buildings are connected.

However I had missed the part that you are on two separate tickets/bookings. Therefore you will need to go the Alitalia check-in counter first, before heading to the gate.

If your Alitalia tickets didn't allow for seat reservations at the time of booking, you may want to check in online before leaving home and reserve your seats then. With the time difference, you should be within the 24 hour check-in window. The scanner at the security entrance didn't recognize the bar code on my e-ticket, but that was easily resolved by printing a boarding pass at one of the kiosks. There are very helpful Alitalia staff available who can assist you with check-in at the kiosks or printing a boarding pass. No need to go to a ticket counter if you only have carry-on luggage.

Once through security, you'll find some very nice places for a light lunch before boarding your flight. I ate at one close to my T1 gate and thought the food was much better than what was offered for sale on the flight.

Also, you may have to go up one level to the check-in/departure level to walk inside from T3 to T1. I don't recall T3 and T2 being connected at the arrival level, although I'm fairly certain T2 and T1 are.
