I’ve read enough to know where the 2 official taxi lines are- Terminals 1 and 3 and they consist of white cars with ‘Taxi’ light atop and Comune di Roma emblem displayed on the door. Am I ok so far? I also know to ask about paying with a card and our destination will be 55 Euros (have Italian keyboard in use and darned if I can find the Euro sign!).
Concern is: We arrive at 7:20PM. I expect formalities to take extra time due to the new regulations for entry. That, gathering checked bags (Yes! We do.), etc., it may well be 9PM before we head to the taxi line. Is that still a time when taxis are plentiful? If not so much, does anyone have a recommendation for one of the private booking companies?
We would normally take the Leonardo into Termini and Metro to near our accommodation but unfortunately I think we will be a bit tuckered and the taxi will work better.
Many thanks
You will be fine as long as you are in the official taxi line
Ignore anyone trying to lead you astray before that line
I suggest writing your destination address on a card/piece of paper and just hand that to driver
Include 55 euros on it
We usually pay in cash-have 55 euros ready
No tip needed-please!
I now only pay for a taxi in cash. Years ago in Madrid, we gave the taxi driver a credit card to try to save our euros for smaller purchases. The cab driver seemed to swipe the card multiple times, then said "no working". We then gave him cash, not thinking to ask for a receipt. When we got back home and received the credit card bill, sure enough there was the charge for the taxi. I was able to dispute the charge on my credit card, but since that experience, I will only pay for a taxi with cash.
For some reason taxi drivers are crooks everywhere in the world. Also in Buenos Aires if you pay with a credit card you end up paying more because they enter an amount higher than what the meter shows. Just get cash at any atm to pay taxi drivers and save the card payments for restaurants, hotels, coffee bars and shopping.
We always bring some euros with us
