We arrived at FCO a couple of hours ago and I thought someone might be interested in our experience. Getting through passport control was very fast and the EES consisted of scanning the passport while holding down on it with your fingers, then having my picture taken. I was so concerned about being delayed by hours, but I shouldn’t have worried so much.
Glad to hear the arrival part of the journey was so relaxing. Have a wonderful trip.
Thanks Laurie Beth!
Had a similar experience in Milan this past June. When the technology works, it's great! Hope the rest of the trip is without worries now!
Glad you made it and with no delays at the airport, Andrea!!! Have a terrific and safe trip!
Woohoo! You two have an excellent time!
Have a great trip. Italy sounds perfect this time of the year.
Yeah, sometimes we worry too much about things we have no control over.
Enjoy your trip. You’re just starting and we are just ending. Leaving Athens for home tomorrow.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience in real time, Andrea! I'll be landing at FCO in about 10 days and I appreciate knowing you got through so quickly. Have a wonderful trip!!
Thanks everyone. We leave Rome this morning and head to Salerno for 3 nights. It will probably be raining when we arrive there. Oh well, we are in Italy.
Safe travels home, Barbara.
I forgot to mention when talking about the airport in Rome about what we had to do when we first arrived. We flew into Rome 16 years ago and I didn’t remember anything about our experience. After getting off of the plane we had to walk a distance and then found ourselves outside of the terminal. We had to take a bus to another building to go through passport control and baggage pickup. It wasn’t difficult, but I was surprised by it.
Glad you had a fast experience. We arrived last Tuesday at 1:00 pm and we experienced the longest lines and times we’ve ever had arrivingat FCO. Perhaps lots of staff were off that day.
Welcome to Bella Italia. 💕
I had a very good dinner at Angolo Massuccio. I started with eggplant parmesan, then lightly fried anchovy filets. Large portions, very good. My companion had lemon shrimp and then grilled calamari, both of which she ate with gusto. The house wine is good. Some of their best dishes aren't on the menu! Feel free to ask for suggestions. There's no pasta listed, but I saw people ask for and get it. Be sure that they give you a complementary glass (very small) of meloncello at the end. It was so good, I bought a bottle at a wine shop - and I'm sipping it now in my Bologna apartment. I also had an excellent Greek lunch at Mythos, on via Roma (big servings).
Becky, I’m sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I guess it’s hit and miss depending on staffing and how many planes arrive at the same time.
Thanks Chani!
Glad you made it safely and hope you have a great trip! I believe they've done some major upgrades to FCO in the past 6 years, it seemed much easier this time, though a long walk from the gate to baggage claim. Would love to hear how your Salerno / Sorrento / (is Napoli in there somewhere?) Pompeii trip goes!!
We were directed from our gate to go downstairs to the street where shuttle buses whisked us from there straight to passport and baggage claim.
