FCO Airport with kids, length of time to get through customs/passport control?

Can anyone assist on how long it will take from dembarking airplane (coming from Dulles), pass through passport control/customs, picking up baggage, and walking to Leonardo Express? I have two kids under two, and wanted to coordinate my train ride to Roma Termini to Florence. Also wanted to pre-purchase my train tickets. Any assistance is kindly appreciated. Thank you!

Given all of the variables, not least being the possibility that the flight itself might be late arriving, no one can say with any degree of accuracy. Best advice is to either give yourself a very long time leeway, or, even more practical, wait until you clear Immigration to buy tickets online for the next trains.

If the gods are smiling, it may be possible to navigate from your arrival gate to the Leonardo Express within an hour or so - that was our experience in November, with checked baggage. However, that was with NO line at passport control.

And, no children under two, which could slow your progress considerably. Keep in mind that it's a very long walk from the terminal 3 arrival gates to immigration.

If you're a risk taker, you could book a train three or four hours after your scheduled arrival and hope for the best. If you are able to use the Trenitalia Frecce Family discount, you may be entitled to a one-time change to the booked departure time, paying the difference in fare. The Economy fare level also allows one change.

With your hands full with the kids, I can appreciate the option to have your tickets already purchased in the Trenitalia app - you should be able to change your ticket within it as well.

Thank you for the information! We booked our train using the family discount at Roma Termini 3.5 hrs after scheduled landing at FCO. If things get time consuming at airport then yes we will be able to change time of train.
