FCO airport navigation to get on train

We will be arriving in Terminal C. We need to get to train station and take the FM1 train into Rome. Don't need the Leonardo express! First, How do we get to train station from Terminal C? Do we just select the FM1 ticket or do we need to know in advance which stop we are going to get off at? Also if we buy from a kiosk do we have to validate before getting on train? What if we buy in person at ticket booth would that be easier for us to make sure we get right ticket? Is there ATMs that we can use around the train station?

Both the Leonardo Express and the FM1 are in the same station. Use the ticket counter and know which stop you're getting off at. Just follow the train signs. You will pass atms and a tourist info booth on your way to the station.

You will find an airport map in the airline periodical located in the seat pocket in front of you. It's normally located toward the back of the magazine.

Incidentally, the local has been renamed FL1 in 2012 and there are signs also inside european airports.

You must follow the yellow sign with a train painted on and "trains" written below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=122s&v=dI2eWTw1P2E&app=desktop

All local trains tickets NOT purchased online must be time-stamped before gettin on.

If it costs 8 € and not 14 it's the right ticket.

Does the FL1 train go directly to Ostiense or will we have to stop and change stations in Trastevere?

Your post is a little confusing. The terminals at FCO are numbered 1, 2, 3 & 5. If you are arriving at a gate in Section C, you’ll be in terminal 3. You will find bank ATM’s near the exit. There are others as you walk through the terminal that are non-Bank owned and the exchange rate will cost you 3-5% compared to using a bank ATM. As you exit the terminal, there are signs that will lead you to the rail station in the large structure across from the terminal. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk once you exit to the rail station.

We take the train between FCO and Ostiense because we like to stay in Testaccio. Last time I looked, Google doesn't even know there is such a train, but there is. We just took it in April.

It's a shorter distance but it makes more stops, so I believe it takes 5 minutes more than the Leonardo to Termini. No, you do not have to change trains in Trastevere, although that is one of the stops. It's so nice to avoid Termini, even though Termini's new-ish Mercato Centrale is a really fun place to eat.

Getting to the FCO train station is actually pretty easy. As you exit the secured area (after baggage claim and customs), go to your right. There will be shops on your left and banks and transportation booths on you right. The entrance to the train station will be on your left. Watch for the signs that point you to the escalator to the underpass, and there will likely be people lined up at the couple of ticket kiosks near the entrance. There are additional ticket kiosks and ticket windows once you get to the platform. In addition to the official ticket window, there are a few travel agencies with short lines that sell regional tickets at the same price. The regional train will be on either the left or right track (check the electronic signs at the head of the track), with the Leonardo Express occupying the center track. You'll see machines to validate your tickets right after you pass through the security gate.

ALL tickets sold in the airport station need to be validated !! even if you buy from a ticket agent.
