favorite towns, Umbria?

I'll been in Assisi for 6 nights, so I'd like to spend one day on a day trip. I'm using train/bus, so that limits my choices some. I would appreciate suggestions of any favorite towns that I can easily reach from Assisi. Great art would be wonderful, but not essential. I was thinking of Perugia, with it's national gallery, but don't know if its size would make a day trip difficult (I'm not terrifically adept at cities). Or maybe Spello or Foligno? Thoughts?

FWIW, I can't think of any reason to go to Foligno. Perugia or Spello, yes. Foligno, no. We were stuck there for a few hours in 2008 when we missed our change of train. Wandered around. Very boring.

Sherry, I spent 6 days in Assisi in June, and did several day trips. Spello is beautiful, and only a few kilometers from Assisi (I met a young couple who walked there from Rocca Maggiore in Assis). Just outside the town are recently discovered mosaic pavements, and the town itself is small and beutiful. Spello is more of a half-day trip, it's quite close to Assisi. Depending on what month you are there, the town has a flower festival and all the homes have beautiful flowers outside their doors. Other possibilities: I'm also partial to Gubbio. Todi is also a great choice. Trevi is also a little gem of a town with great views from every angle.
