Favorite town on the Lake Garda shoreline for beach and relaxation?

We've decided to include two nights at Lake Garda on our schedule, replacing our plan to go to Cinque Terre. This is more streamlined and saves us hours of travel time. We are going to Rome, then Tuscany, then Lake Garda and then Venice.

I've researched each town that has availability on the various booking sites, which isn't much this time of year when booking for July. I'm trying to decide between the towns on the south end of the lake, such as Sirmoine, or the towns on the west coastline, such as Limone and Salo, or on the eastern shoreline such as Malcesine or even on the picturesque northern shoreline with Riva del Garda.

Does anyone here have a favorite village at Lake Garda and, if so, which one and why? I'd like to be within 10-15 minutes of a decent "beach" area on the lake. (using quotation marks since a lakeshore beach isn't like the sea.)

We loved Malcescine. Look at the town on Google satellite view and you will see a sandy beach stretching north from the castle. Hotel Castillo is right on that beach. I'd stay there if possible.

We actually stayed at a hotel farther north and across the road, but could walk to town along the beach.

We stayed in Malcesine last Aug & loved it. We stayed at Hotel Vega which added to our enjoyment of Malcesine. Admittedly though, we are not beach people and didnt go swimming while in Lake Garda, but Hotel Vega is right on the lake and has a small pool and a sun deck if you want to lay out or go for a swim in the lake. We visited Limone and Riva as day trips but enjoyed Malcesine the most and are glad we stayed there. Just my 2 cents.
