Favorite Restaurants in Rome?

Any recommendations for restaurants in Rome? I know there are hundreds, but perhaps there are some favorites among recent or frequent travelers. Thanks!

This is my favorite Roman restaurant. My uncle in Rome took me there many times, and we never had a bad meal. I haven't been there since 2004, but I recommended it to a friend who went there last year and he raved about it. Many native Romans eat there, so that says something. Can't wait for my next meal there!

Our most delicious, memorable meal in Rome was at Enoteca Corsi, listed in Rick Steves' Rome guidebook and highly praised by Rachael Ray. It is a very reasonably priced, lunch-only place near the Pantheon. We arrived a little early, and were graciously invited to come in, sit down and relax before lunch. In National Geographic Traveler's July/August 2008 issue, there's a good article on Rome titled, "Authentic Rome: Doing as the Romans do Becomes a Breeze with these Sights and Recommendations from our Five Top Rome Experts". This article includes a photo of the restaurant and describes Enoteca Corsi as "a boisterous temple of home cooking (lunch only; the whole family cooks what they got at the Campo de' Fiori market". The cooking aromas were absolutely heavenly when we walked into the door and our meals were all fabulous. I highly recommend this as an authentic Roman meal experience.

We liked the bistro Hostaria Romana (Near the Trevi Fountain at Via de Boccaccio 1 tel. 06-474-5284) for the lively atmosphere as much as the food--the waiters were entertaining! In Trastevere we liked sitting outside at Trattoria da Lucia (Vicolo del Mattonato.) Both restaurants serve basic good food.

Frankly i was so happy to be eating in Rome that i can't say which was a favorite...though i do know one i'd never eat at again...
But...if you have time, because it's a bit out of the way try Burro e Sugo....www.burroesugo.com...We enjoyed the staff as much as the food. We made reservations for 8:00 (opening time) and it was packed by 9:00...The chef/owner speaks French and English, but so fast i'm not sure...And although we didn't eat in many restaurants, this one sure is quality/price.

La Carbornara, which is in Rick's book, on the Campo dei Fiore, is worth it for the combination of setting and food.

Hi Lynda, We just returned and although we had very good food at all of RS suggestions, one rest. that sticks out as memorable is Caffe dello Studente just blocks from the Colosseum. It's a small little place but you do get to sit outside without any extra charges. It's family run and Simona, the daugther, will gives you some very special treatment if you show her RS's book. We were greeted like long time patrons, had a great meal, and also received free drinks and free desserts. Sometimes it's not just great food but the little extras that will make a meal special from all the other places. Everything Rick states in his book about this place is right-on.
