Favorite place to stay in Rome

I've stayed at Hotel Santa Prassede near Termini and Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica; Hotel Smeraldo near Campo de' Fiori; Hotel Museum right next to Vatican Museums entrance and Hotel Lancelot just south of the Colosseum. Favorite due to its centro storico location and nearby Campo de' Fiori is Hotel Smeraldo; favorite for closeness to Colosseum, Baths of Caracalla and nearby Monti rione Hotel Lancelot; favorite for ease in going to the Vatican Museums Hotel Museum and favorite former convent, close to Santa Maria Maggiore and first Rome location stayed at Hotel Santa Prassede. HSP only 2-star (no elevator), others are 3-star (with elevator). All reasonably priced, well run with helpful staff and clean rooms.

I always stay in Trastevere. Centrally located and lots of restaurants. I use Airbnb, not hotels.

If you're going to the Vatican, we love Hotel Museum and have stayed there on 3 trips.

Stay in the area near the Pantheon.
