favorite italy adventures

I will be spending 3 weeks in Italy with my 17 year old daughter. We will go from Milan to Venice, Florence, Rome and then the Amalfi.

Of all the things any of you have done in and around those areas besides museums what would you recommend? I'm talking about more exciting adventurous things. I've already got our itinerary for the museums figured out.

For instance, we plan to do a bike trip through the Chianti region and take an all day cooking class in Florence. More things on this line rather than the shopping and museums.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Horseback riding or hot air ballooning in Tuscany. Walking the trails of the Amalfi Coast, renting a boat to explore the Amalfi Coast.

The one we are taking is with Faith Willinger you can go to www.faithwillinger.com and another great one is judy cucina. I have to look up her website. You can also see a great list of them on www.slowtrav.com and go to Italy and type in cooking classes. The one we are doing is on June 20th. It's a market and culinary class from 9-4. The class size is limited to 6. She may still have room.

I hope that helps.

I know we will take a trip to the Blue Grotto and maybe the other Grottos. I've heard you can swim there but wasn't sure about the wildlife that maybe around there. Has anyone done that? IF so, have you done a private tour or with the group?

This is the other cooking school that I originally wanted to go to but if I'm not mistaken she is not in Florence during the time of our stay. She may be when your daughter is there.

Any other suggestions of unusual things to do while in Italy or out of the ordinary shopping and museums?

My teenage son and I love Sorrento, on the Amalfi Coast, where we've been twice, in July 05 and 06. He's now 17 and one of the most fun things we did was rent a really nice small motorized boat from the dock in Capri and spent the whole day driving around the island, swimming, picnic-ing, and just relaxing and enjoying the beauty of it all. It was great and was not very expensive. I think it was about $160 for 8 hours. The boat was new, spotlessly clean, had a canvas shade to protect you from the sun, comfortable cushioned seats, and a ladder to get into and out of the water. The company name is "Banana Boats."

That sounds like a great time and especially since we'll be there the last week of June I'm sure it will be hot.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if I can find a website for them.
