Favorite hotels in Venice?

Reasonably priced, decent location?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

We rented an apartment from Hotel d'Art. It wasn't fancy but nicely located and reasonably priced. I will try them again on the next trip to Venice. The apartment was owned by the hotel (and the standard "50 meters" away) but we never saw any of the hotel rooms.

My wife and I stayed at the pensione Guerrato 5 years ago. We both liked very much.

Hi Chris
We stayed at Ponte Chiodo 3749 in the Ca' D'Oro district.
It was very comfortable and the owner Mattia is informed and helpful. I liked that it was easy to get to and not in a noisy area. It has a lovely small courtyard where breakfast is served and the back of the townhouse is on a small canal. From the B and B it was very simple to get anywhere on the Vaporetto.

I would also recommend Pensione Guerrato, which is located a few steps from the Rialto Mkt. Our family of 4 enjoyed our stay here in 2005. In 2007 and 2009 we rented apartments through Hotel Campiello which were located in a small square just off the Riva and minutes from San Marco. The apartments were very nice with big modern bathrooms. In 2002 we stayed at Hotel Rialto wich is on the Grand Canal just at the base of the Rialto Bridge (San Marco side). It was expensive and not worth the $.

We stayed at the Hotel American Dinesen near the Accademia and loved it. The hotel was very nice, right on a side canal (some rooms had views) and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. We booked through their online site and got a very good rate for staying 3 nights (although this is not a budget hotel). I really liked the area as I found San Marco & the Rialto areas too congested for my taste. I was there during July so other times of the year may be better.

I love Venice and I love Ponte Chiodo. Easy to find, close to a vaporetto stop, great garden to sit in and chat and drink your wine at the end of long day.

I liked the neighborhood in that you could find whatever you wanted in just a short walk. My favorite stop was watching people go into a very small shop that turned out to be a jug wine shop. They had about 8 kinds of wine in huge straw wrapped jugs from which they would fill your container. All I had was my water bottle, which was happily filled with wine.

Back at Ponto Chiodo, I shared my find with my traveling compatriots. The next night, everyone had jug wine. A good time was had by all.
