Cretaiole in Pienza. Absolutely fabulous. They book only week long stays, beginning, if memory serves, each week on Saturday. We stayed there before RS found it. He features it on his show, and there’s a great blog about it from Cameron Hewitt on the RS site.

Last year we stayed at Relais Ortaglia just 5 minutes outside Montepulciano and highly recommend it. The hosts are wonderful and extremely helpful with dinner reservations, booking tours, etc. Great views over the vineyard and amazing breakfast. Technically it's a B&B rather than an agriturismo.

I second the Montepulciano suggestion above – fantastic town which we have been using as a base for the past few years. This past summer, we stayed at Fonte Martino (www.fontemartino.com) and it was fantastic. Excellent breakfasts, killer views of Montepulciano and valleys, and the hosts are awesome! Like the other suggestion, this is a b&b as well.

We spent a wonderful week at Castillo di Verrazzano in December 2015. It's just outside Greve. As you can see on the website, the views are gorgeous. The breakfasts are out of this world with wild boar salami, wonderful fresh baked bread, cheeses and other goodies. Marco will do a great job taking care of you.

October could be a fun time to be there. I don't know if the harvest will be over, but you might get to see them drying and processing the year's harvest. If you stay, set aside an afternoon for their winery tour and food and wine experience. We wanted to splurge for a true laid back Italian lunch and took our time. The tour started at 11:00 and we were seated for lunch at 12:45. We could have finished by 2:00, but it was 3:30 when we left!
