Does anyone know the fastest way to go from Sorrento to Paestum to tour the Greece Temples? I'm trying to see about a train, but haven't had much luck. Also, if you've toured Paestum, did you think it was worthwhile?
Take a bus or boat to Positano. Then catch the hydrofoil to Salerno. From Salerno, take a bus or train to Paestum. Paestum is only 50 Km south of Salerno.
Paestum is definitely worth visiting. It's basically an unearthed Greek town and doubtless the best Greek ruins in Italy outside Sicily. They also have a small but excellent museum displaying the artefacts they've uncovered.
Another possibility:
Metro del Mare hydrofoil from Sorrento to Salerno Molo Manfredi (19 June through 8 October ONLY);
Walk 2 kilometers or take city bus to Piazza della Concordia in Salerno (near train station)
CSTP bus no. 034 to Paestum (or Trenitalia regionale train, if schedules permit)
www.cstp.it (Line 034)
Otherwise, the advice above is also good: Circumvesuviana train to Pompei Scavi; walk to Trenitalia station in Pompei and board regionale train direct to Paestum.
Thanks everyone for your responses. Paestum will be part of our travel plans!
