Fastest way from FCO to central Rome: taxi or hired car?

Ciao everyone!

I'll be spending less than 24 hours in Rome in May. I've been to Rome before and loved it, but my boyfriend has not, so I'd like to make the most of our one day in Rome.

I'd like to hit the ground running as soon as we land in the morning at FCO. I've been researching and it seems like a taxi or hired car may be the fastest way to get to central Rome, as opposed to a train or bus. (We are staying at Hotel Smeraldo, which seems to be a fan favorite! It's also a bit far from the train station).

Can anyone that has traveled to Rome recently tell me which might be faster: grabbing a taxi or hiring a private car? And what traffic conditions may be like? We are landing on a Monday morning.

Many thanks!

Since a taxi and a private car have to travel the same route, encountering the same traffic, it comes down to price. I think there is a set fee of 48 euro for cabs from the airport to Rome. Check out limo prices and there you have it.

It all depends on day and time. No difference is taxi and hired car. A hired car might be little faster assuming your met quickly at the pick up point and there is a line for the taxis. If I was doing it, I would just grab a taxi. The fee is fixed at 48 euro.

The time you waste getting to the station for the LE, then grab a taxi from Roma termini to the hotel..
Just taking a taxi from the airport is faster.

lizzie,

The fastest way from FCO to Rome is likely the Leonardo Express (32 minutes, ) since it's not affected by traffic. THIS article from Trenitalia makes reference to the traffic aspect. Once you arrive at Roma Termini, take a Taxi to your hotel. There's a Taxi rank right outside the front doors, and there will be lots of Taxi's waiting.

I would also say Leonardo Express is the fastest. Traffic can be horrendous.
