Have booked four fast trains, read each carriage has luggage areas.Do they have overhead storage where your seat is.Have also read that leaving in storage area, you have to watch that it's not snatched
There is overhead storage by the seat.
If the bag is too big to sit up there then you have to leave it in the storage area,
I have never had problem sitting may bag overhead at these dimensions
22" x 14" x 8"
Linear Inches: 44"
Hi Jazz, thank for your quick response. Our luggage is carry on size.Is that ok😊
Yes the carry on size should fit
Still, whether its above you or at the end of the car, it's worth keeping an eye on it.
patty,
To answer your questions.....
- there's a luggage rack at the end of each car. These tend to fill up quickly and in some cases other travellers will move luggage to fit their bags onto the rack. In one case, my pack was unceremoniously tossed out into the foyer so some inconsiderate imbecile could put his bicycle on the rack.
- there are also overhead racks, which are large enough for carry-on size luggage.
- you may also be able to keep smaller bags by your feet.
- yes, it's a good idea to watch your bag so that it doesn't "disappear" during the trip (I've seen that happen to others).
Remember to be standing at the door with all your luggage in hand before you get to your station (unless it's the final stop.) You'll see other people doing this and they are not kidding. Also, on some trains, there is a space for a carry-on size bag between the seats.
For info on luggage storage on trains, including photos, see this webpage: https://www.seat61.com/luggage-on-european-trains.htm
There are three possible places:
- Overhead rack
- Floor to ceiling luggage racks, usually at the end of the coach near the doors. Not all trains have these, just more modern long distance trains.
- Between seat backs, an "A"-shaped space. There are few of these, but they are good for large bags as no lifting required.
Do not leave your bags in the aisle, or on other seats. That will annoy people.
Don't forget you have to carry your own luggage through the station, on and off the train, and store it yourself. Which is why everyone says "pack light". It is also your responsibility to get off at the correct station, with your luggage. Once people have stopped getting on and off, the train will start, so don't waste time in the train.
Great read.Thank you for your input😊
I have travelled on many trains in Europe, and I always try to sit where I can see my bag.
If you have put it in the rack at the end of the car, get up at each stop to make sure it is not taken off the train by someone else.
(Making sure not to get in the way of other departing passengers.)
And yes, be ready to get off immediately the train arrives at your stop.
You might only have two minutes before the train is ready to leave again.
Last year in Paris on the way to Amsterdam by train: the train attendant told me to really watch my bags on board.
