Fast train Venice to Rome?

Hi. I’ve searched here for the fastest way to get to Rome from Venice in September 2022, and tried all the suggested places to get tickets (trenitalia, etc.) mentioned here, as well as searching the web. People say the fast train can do it in 3.5 hours. The only thing I’m seeing is travel times of 10+ hours! where should I be looking? I’m obviously doing something wrong.

I think you're just too early. I see fast trains listed for early September but not later in the month. I imagine that means the date you're looking for will show up fairly soon.

Hi Jen. Try trenitalia.com website again. I just tried September 15 and I see fast trains about every hour taking about 4 hours. Use Roma Termini and Venezia SL; double check your date and times. Enjoy your trip!

Hi Jen, try looking for the same route a week from now. That will give you an idea of the travel times and when they typically leave. I see several for 3 hrs. 59 minutes. You can purchase them online in August or possibly July.

I suspect the rest of the September trains will be purchasable on trenitalia.com pretty soon. If you're willing to commit this early and are hoping for a bargain-priced ticket, I'd check every two or three days. However, you certainly don't need to rush your purchase if you're not trying to snag tickets at the lowest possible fare.

Italo also runs trains on that route, so you might check its website as well as Trenitalia's. Italo is currently selling tickets through at least late July, but definitely not for September yet.

There are SuperEconomy (i.e. lowest) fare tickets available on all the 13 direct high speed trains from Venice to Rome running on May 28. Next Saturday. In five days.

I am positive Jen and her fellow travelers can confidently check the schedules once a week and they will still find some discounted tickets on trains running in late September, well after the 2022 Cinema Festival.

Since I hate wasting time on the web, I'd check again on June 12, but it's just me.

Thanks, everyone! I will check back in a few weeks. I haven’t planned a big trip since 2019 & feel so out of the loop!

Italo has always been my choice over Trenitalia for that journey as they usually have better rates if booked in advance. Keep an eye on both websites this summer for schedules to open up for September. The earlier you book, the better rates you are likely to see.

Agree with Jeff here. Italo trains were clean and comfortable.
