I read there is now a 30 minute train from Florence to Assisi...is that even possible??

There is a Freccia train in the morning that gets to Arezzo in 33 minutes, but Arezzo is still 2 hours from Assisi.

Unless St. Francis is on board performing a miracle because he's late, there is no chance Trenitalia could achieve that feat with the current rail technology. Actually not even a helicopter could be that fast.
There are almost 180 km (110 miles) from Florence to Assisi. Therefore physics tells us that a train would need to travel at an average speed of 360km/h to get there in 30 min.
