I am a 70 year old woman traveling alone and have been to Italy several times. This trip may be my last and I am looking for a country or farm house, where I can have clean, not fancy, accommodation that will include breakfast and lunch. I love pets and gardens as well as walking and just being with Italians. I don't mind actually working in the garden. I would have a car to explore. I would like to return to Tuscany in late Spring 2020. I like peace and friendliness. !Any recommendations? Thanks!
You might want to give an idea of what part of Italy you're want to travel through.
In Tuscany, the farms are very small and virtually every farm has rooms or apartments for rent as a source of secondary income.
I've not stayed here, but many on this forum have and raved about it. Seems to fit all your criteria. Very close to Siena.
Thank you very much! It’s perfect.
Marciano is known for its multi-course dinners served on the big table in the kitchen; guests sharing stories about their exploits. The breakfast buffet features freshly baked pastries. Nothing is offered from breakfast until dinner at 8PM.
It's not a farm, and there are no animals. They do make wine.
Anyone driving in can consult a youtube video that follows the road.
I am booking as we speak. Arriving in Roma, is it best to take train to Siena and rent car there fir the week?
Your excellent advice is greatly appreciated!
If you're planning on making this transfer on arrival day, Train... Fiumicino aeroport- Roma Tiburtina, about 48min.

Then this bus to Siena.
See if there's bus service to your lodging or take a taxi. Then pick up car the next day.
If you are staying at Marciano I don't believe they had bus service there. We took a train from Rome to Orvieto, then drove to Marciano. It was several days after we arrived in Italy. If you plan to go straight to Tuscany after arrival I would not advise driving that day. I think there's a bus from Rome to Siena, but I don't remember the specifics. Someone else might be able to help with that. It's a very short taxi ride from Siena to Marciano. If you're driving I would suggest using GPS. It's a little confusing to get there initially.
Reply to Gerri: Your information sounds like a plan that would work for me. Thank you so much!

I would like to thank you for your valuable information on this lovely accommodation. This place is booked May and Sep 2020, so I may wait and go there May or Sep 2021. I really like this location close to Siena, where one can walk to town. That way I can just rent a car for 1-2 days for exploration and not the entire time, which will save money.
All the best to you. I have used Rick Steves' advice on all of my previous trips.
