I'm heading to Rome with some girlfriends; we're all between 40-60. I'd love for us to go have a cocktail at a fancy hotel bar while in Rome; it seems like a way of enjoying a beautiful, expensive hotel for the price of a drink or a glass of wine. Does anyone have any recommendations? Tons of gilt, overstuffed velvet poufs and slabs of gleaming marble are all pluses! :-)

Try the rooftop bar at the Grand Hotel de la Minerve. It is certainly the best rooftop vista in all of Rome and very posh. About a block from the Pantheon. It is an amazing place.

These two hotels may be what you are looking for: the Hassler, near Spanish Steps (Tom Cruise rented it out for his wedding) and the De Russie on Via Babuino which looks very posh. I think the latter hotel has a enclosed garden for dining and drinking. Have a fabulous time in Rome!

I should mention that we'll be there in January/February. blush Should've said that in the original post! But i bet they have heaters in some of these rooftop restaurants.
