Hi, we will be in the Tuscany region for 2 days and need advice on where to stay. We won't have a car so we will be walking to sights. Need a good base to do day trips. We can't decide if Siena or Pisa or somewhere else would be best. Any suggestions?
Without a car, I would certainly consider Florence just for transportation options.
With only two days (three nights, I presume?) you are best off in Florence or Siena. Florence has more to do. better connections, and a very convenient train station right in town, so it is likely your best choice. With only two days (3 nights) Florence will offer plenty of activities. Pisa not that great, FYI. In Florence, be sure to see the Galileo Museum.
Between your choices of Siena or Pisa, I would definitely select Siena. The sites to see in Siena could easily keep you busy for at least one full day, which would give you the second day for a day trip. This is assuming that you’re not counting your travel time to Siena as Day 1.
For that length of time, Florence would be the only option I’d consider. Unless you plan to be in Florence at a different time (Before or after) in which case you could consider Siena.
