Family Tour Europe

Going on Family Tour to Europe this summer with 13 year old grandson. Will be in Rome two days before tour starts. Would any previous participants in this tour recommend getting a private guide/driver and touring outside of Rome for those days? Or any other suggestion of what to do so we don't duplicate ETBD sights?

For a 13-year old in Rome, that are not included in Rick's 2-day Family Tour: climb the Spanish Stepstoss coins in Trevi Fountainwalk the back streets sampling gelato along your wayCappucin Crypt (if you think he won't be spooked by the bones of 4000 monks)Catacombs on the Appian WayBocca della Verita (it will be safe for him to put his hand in, at 13 he doesn't have much to hide)

Linda,

Your tour documents will normally specify which sights will and won't be included with your RS Tour. In Rome the family tour includes Floodlit night walk through Rome, Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.

There are LOTS of ways to spend the two free days you have. As someone else suggested, the Trevi Fountain would be good. You could also tour the Capitoline Museums, the Campo di Fiori or have a look at the Trastevere area. If you want an excellent tour of the Capitoline Museums, you might consider using a local Guide and Francesca Caruso is outstanding! She's listed in Rick's book and will likely be providing the local tours that are included with your RS tour.

For a definite answer on this and some good recommendations, it might be an idea to send an E-mail to ETBD.

Happy travels!

Thanks for good ideas. I have also read RS suggestions in our material. Any suggestions for kid friendly trips outside of Rome? Or does that start the trip with overload?

I'm thinking that if you take him to the Cappucin Crypt, he'll be telling his friends about that first!

Look into Orvieto and all that it has to offer. There is a well that is an engineering feat that can be climbed into. Unfortunately, when we were in Orvieto with our kids I did not know about it and regret not having done my homework beforehand. We missed out on something memorable I think
