In digging around the Trenitalia web site, I found the familia plan. We're travelling 2 adults a 14 and 13 year old. Do we qualify? Many of these discounts only seem to apply to EU children. The familia rates seemed better than the AMICA rates. We'll be travelling Venice-Florence. The rate I came up with was 93E on the familia plan. Sound about right?
There is a link on the purchase page that explains all of the different fares...this is the url:

Although the page reference given by Tim from Knoxville says nothing about it, I've read elsewhere that the Familia plan is only good for residents of Italy. But I don't remember where I read that so I can't say for sure whether it's true or not.
We did the family plan in April (my kids are 10 and 12) on all of our train ticket purchases and had no problem at all - so I don't think they only apply to EU children.
Margaret,
No, you don't qualify. Children must be under 12. See http://www.trenitalia.com/en/promozioni_offerte/promozioni/offerta_familia.html
Tim's link also showed must be under 12.
