Fall Festivals in Northern Italy

I hope to start a list of fall festivals and celebrations, including small little-known ones. My area of interest is southern Germany, Austria, and the Lombardia and Veneto regions of Italy, and especially festivals involving mushrooms, cheese, wine, or other local products, and other harvest celebrations. But of course you are welcome to add festivals all over Italy. We will be there for a month and can travel to enjoy the local celebrations. This would be celebrations taking place in September and October. Who wants to start?

I have heard that this one near Lake Garda (Verona area)is great: Festa dell´Uva e del Vino Bardolino 2012, Oct 4-8 We are going to this one tomorrow, also in Verona:
Tocatì-Street Festival in Verona from 21. - 23.09.2012. Traditional European games taking place throughout the city. This one is also advertised all over town, but I have not heard any local buzz about it yet: Fiera del Riso. September 12 - October 7, 2012

Also one more near Lake Garda next weekend (sept 28-30):
St. Michele Ancient Fair – Calmasino. Food & Wine event with typical, local products. Musical entertainment, display of tractors and vintage agricultural machinery, display of arts & crafts, photographic contest. I am in the middle of a 7 week stay in Verona, where is your home base at for the month?

Kate-this is perfect, just what I was looking for! I would love that St. Michele Ancient Fair In Calmasino, with the vintage tractors and all. And the Grape and Wine festival, and the Fiera del Riso (have you seen all the rice fields coming across the Veneto?) We will be based in Venice for the month of October, but next year, not this one. And in the Dolomites for a week before that. I have received informaton about "mushroom weeks" from some of the tourist website in the Dolomites, so will have to follow up on those.

There is a Fall Festival in Lugano, Switzerland the first week-end in October. It runs the 5th, 6th, and 7th. I am going to be at that one - I found info online about it. Cheryl

Hi Lola Attended the wine festival in Bardolino at Lake Garda in 2010. Had a fabulous and fun time. Stayed at hotel nettuno one night, right on lake. lots of food, wine, booths, gorgeous views, music. went on sunday since there is a firework show late at night over the lake. walked through town of bardolino which is quaint. mingle with people, sat at cafes having an apertif (orange color cocktail). we got a souvenir glass with holder, like a necklace to hold glass. take cash euros to pay for the wine and food you buy. you will have a great time and it was worth it all. if you decide to attend, i would book room way ahead of time.
ENJOY!!!

How about the White Truffle festival in Alba throughout the month of October? It is a fabulous festival with lots of food and wine. It is a beautiful wine region of northern Italy. You would not be disappointed.

There's a festival of local food and wine in Udine (in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giula) in September. My friend chanced upon it (he was staying in Udine at the time anyway, and only found out about the festival when he started to make reservations), and being a food lover, had a great time.

Perfect! We would like to get up to the Udine region in any case, so finding a festival gives us more incentive. And a white truffle fair sounds great---apparently the one in alba is the biggest and best. Thanks!
