We are on our post-retirement Grand Tour and Giovanna Donadio, a lifelong Sorrento resident ([email protected]; recommended in Rick Steves’ Naples/Amalfi Coast guide. She is delightful, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the area, energetic and wonderfully organized. She and her husband Francesco (an impressive history buff) took us on a driving/walking tour of positano/amalfi/ravello. Giovanna took us on a charming walking and food tour of Sorrento and was generous in her advice on restaurants and other activities. She also took us all over Capri and arranged for a boat tour.
For other excursions, she arranged excellent, attentive drivers and experienced, wonderful guides for Pompei (plus lunch at a winery) and Naples. Everything was “perfetto”.
Through Giovanni, we got a sense of what it was like to live, work and raise a family in the area. Everywhere we went she was greeted by friends. We even had the pleasure of running into her and her sister on a day we wandered Sorrento on our own.
As my husband just volunteered- “Giovanna is phenomenal- I can’t say enough good things about her”!
To be clear, you can hire her just for one or two tours. As Rick S has said- hiring a guide for a day definitely is worth it!
